Ballet and Pointe

Ballet is the foundation of all dance genres; therefore, we incorporate the fundamental elements of all dance forms into the session. At Prodigy Dance Company, we suggest that all students attend at least one ballet session a week to help better the technique of each individual student. The primary objective in ballet is to develop correct technique, alignment, musicality, strength, proper placement, discipline and grace. Our ballet program caters to beginners through the professional level.

Contemporary

Contemporary is a dance genre that focuses on choreography and movement, portraying one’s inner feelings. It allows our dancers to experience self-expression, awareness, and confidence, through improvisational techniques. The dancers will learn off-vertical alignment, balance, strength and how to retain choreography in a short period of time. Contemporary is one of the most popular dance forms in the country today. Our contemporary program caters to intermediate/advanced dancers through the professional level.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary techniques. Lyrical helps the dancers connect with their emotions, creating a more mature dancer. PDC will teach the students body control, alignment, fluidity, flexibility, technique, and choreography. Our lyrical program caters to beginners through the pre-professional level.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics is a session of exercises and training techniques, involving flexibility, jumping, flipping, and other related movements directed towards enhancing the students dance capabilities. Students will focus on flexibility, strength, and endurance. Our acrobatics session caters to beginners through the professional level.

Jazz

Jazz is an energy and rhythmic based genre that blends ballet technique and contemporary movement. PDC jazz sessions are infused with energy and passion. We focus on stretching, body alignment, conditioning, core muscle strengthening, and balance. Through choreography and across the floor, sessions will focus on developing the technical and stylistic qualities of jazz. Our jazz program caters to beginners through the professional level.

Hip-Hop

Hip Hop has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent times. Our hip-hop program incorporates foundational forms of street dancing. This is a high-energy style of dance that pushes dancers to expand their retention of choreography, and understand bodylines and isolation techniques that give hip-hop its signature style.

Stretch and Strength

Stretch and Strength sessions focus on flexibility of all limbs of the body. In this session, dancers learn how to lengthen their legs, arms and feet, creating beautiful bodylines. It will increase the individual dancers’ turnout, flexibility, and arm placements. Our Stretch and Strength session caters to beginners through the professional level.

Tap

Tap sessions at PDC are designed to develop rhythm and timing with the heel and the toe, while increasing the students’ tap technique/footwork. Instead of relying entirely on the footwork, PDC uniquely combines other dance genres to help give this form more life. This session will teach students musicality, balance, performance, and how to use their feet as musical instruments. Our tap program caters to beginners through the professional level.

Toddler

(Ages 2 – 3 years)

Leap Twirl & Tumble is our newest program at the studio. This curriculum is structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, motor-development, balance and musicality. We use fun props and exercises as well as continue to introduce terminology in a way that is fun and entertaining for the kids. The dancers in this program will be introduced to jazz, ballet and acro. This is an independent setting, parents are not allowed in the dance studio during this session.

Kinder-Combo, Ballet, & Tap

CLASS LEVELS

Our levels are categorized as Level 1, 2 and 3, below is the criteria for each Level regarding technique. As we know every dancer is different, each dancer will be assessed by the instructor of the class to ensure that they are in the correct level.  To help our dancers to succeed, we are implementing a new rule. If you wish to progress as a dancer, you must enroll in a ballet class of your skill level. Any style your dancer wishes to sign up for will be based on his/her ballet skill level.

Example:

A dancer registered in ballet 1, will be placed in jazz 1, lyrical 1, etc. A dancer registered in ballet 2, will be placed in a jazz 2 or jazz 1, depending on their skill level in that style. If you prefer not to take ballet, you will be placed in level 1 for all styles.

*Keep in mind students will stay in a level for 2-3 years depending on how many classes they take weekly.
